Peanut Butter Dog Biscuits: Easy Organic Recipe

Happy dog with a peanut butter biscuit.jpg

I never met a dog that didn’t love peanut butter. These peanut butter dog biscuits are organic, healthy and tasty. They’re a sure hit with your pet pooch.

We recently made dog biscuits for our friends’ and relatives’ dogs. Right away, the calls started. Owners phoned as their biscuit stash ran dry. Everybody wanted the same thing: more dog treats or the recipe.

A Few Dogs I Have Known

Me, I’ve had only one dog of my own, a chow. I was small and he was large. I named him Number 1 Son. He took great joy in tearing the protective covers off my father’s tomato plants.

Later came Tazmo, a dachshund who arrived with my new stepfather. This dog liked to bite. He slept with his nose down in the ground, barking. He was the single most disturbed animal I’ve ever met.

Eventually, Taz took a greyhound for a spin and had a fine litter of six. He relocated to the Catskills with his new bride, Chava. They both got summer jobs handling the canoe rental at Saperstein’s Resort in the Borscht Belt. I’ve been told the resort pioneered the all-inclusive vacation. Plus, the knish is to die for.

Why Dogs Love This Recipe

Dogs dig peanut butter every bit as much as you do. This dog treat is filled with peanut butter, whole grain spelt, rolled oats, eggs and water. Add parsley for fresh breath. Your pet pooch will scarf it down faster than Ted “Theodore” Logan can say, “Whoa.”

Warning: Check Your Peanut Butter for Xylitol

Most peanut butter brands are safe for dogs. Others can be deadly. Some manufacturers use a sugar substitute called xylitol. It’s toxic to dogs. It causes a rapid release of insulin and a profound drop in blood sugar. Left untreated, the resulting hypoglycemia can be life threatening to your dog.

Avoid this and stick with unsalted, organic peanut butter. Or make your own like we do. Follow this link for our organic homemade peanut butter recipe and video.

One thing, most peanut butter brands are safe, others can be deadly for dogs. Some manufacturers use a sugar substitute called xylitol.
