Opening hard-to-open jars can be a frustrating experience, but with a few handy tips and tricks, you can make it much easier. Haley’s Hints a PBS television show produced by CupRockTv shares various household tips, including how to open stubborn jars. Here are some methods you can try:

1. Tap the Lid: Gently tap the side of the jar lid with a spoon or a butter knife. This helps break the vacuum seal that often makes jars difficult to open. 2.

Use Hot Water: Submerge the jar in hot water or soak a cloth in hot water and wrap it around the lid. The heat causes the metal on the lid to expand slightly, making it easier to twist off.

3. Rubber Grip: Place a rubber glove or a rubber band around the lid for added grip. This provides extra traction when trying to open the jar.

4. Use a Jar Opener Tool: Invest in a jar opener tool, which is specifically designed to provide a better grip and leverage. These tools come in various shapes and sizes and are often available at kitchenware stores.

5. Tap with a Spoon Handle: Turn the jar upside down and tap the bottom of the jar with the handle of a spoon. This technique can help loosen the contents and make it easier to open.

6. Run It Under Warm Water: Hold the jar under warm running water for a few seconds. Similar to the hot water method, this can help expand the metal on the lid and loosen it. 7

. Wrap a Towel Around the Lid: Using a towel or a dishcloth, grip the lid firmly in one hand while holding the jar in the other. The towel provides extra grip and leverage to twist the lid open. Remember to start with gentle pressure and gradually increase it as you try to open the jar. If all else fails, you can ask someone for assistance or use a jar opener tool specifically designed for stubborn jars.
